What did the Stock Advisor team see in Netflix back in 2004?

Back in 2004, the Red Sox had finally broken their curse and won their first World Series in 86 years.

And Netflix was struggling.

Its stock had been knocked down nearly 25% in short order, and there were serious questions about the video-by-mail company’s outlook due to an uncertain competitive landscape and potential managerial missteps.

So it only makes sense that Motley Fool co-founder David Gardner recommended that members of his Stock Advisor service buy the stock.

“I am a Netflix believer,” he wrote to readers in December 2004. “I think this is one cheap stock at $11, backed by a great management team that’s going to create value for us going forward…. It remains first and best in a growing industry, creates convenience for millions of consumers, and is led by visionary management that markets aggressively.”

That December 2004 pick is now up more than 21,529%, and subsequent re-recommendations of Netflix have all made serious money for members who followed the advice.

And that’s a big part of the answer to the question we receive nearly every day at The Motley Fool:

Why are hundreds of thousands of investors getting stock guidance from The Motley Fool?

We know you're busy, so let's jump right into the details.

By the way, these are actual questions from members and investors just like you who know they wanted to get better results with their investing AND were committed to getting results using proven strategies.

Q: "I want to invest, but I don't want to lose money."

A: We absolutely understand your fear. And you're absolutely not alone.

You're investing your hard-earned dollars to make your dreams come true, not to see it drip out of your brokerage account like change through a hole in your pocket.

The truth is that loss happens. Even the world's best investors pick the occasional dud.

But they don't panic.

They understand that if you buy and hold for the long term, it's possible one of your investments could go to 0. But you can gain many, many times more than you could ever lose.

And they play it smart.

With a portfolio made up of a dozen great stocks or more, your winners are going to squash the ones that didn't play out the way you expected.

That strategy has helped hundreds of thousands of investors build lasting wealth. Without fear.

Now…

We understand you might still have some questions…

You still might even have some doubts…

We don't blame you.

If you're still not sure if Motley Fool newsletter services are worth checking out…
